I received one of those pattypan squash (the pretty white star-shaped ones) and cooked it this way:  unpeeled, cut into chunks, coated in olive oil, minced garlic, salt and pepper;  grilled (direct heat) for 10 minutes, turning the pieces to lightly char both sides.  It was quite good!  (the "Perfect Vegetables" cookbook suggests oven roasting it in a similar way.)
